On Monday, November 6th, 2017, at approximately 9:41pm, K9 Deputy Hendrix observed a white four door car traveling North on US Highway 67 South that appeared not to have a registration plate displayed on the rear of the vehicle. Upon getting closer to the vehicle, K9 Deputy Hendrix observed that the vehicle in fact had a registration plate displayed, however had no functioning white tag lights. Upon approaching the intersection of US Highway 67 South and Nevada County Road 51, K9 Deputy Hendrix activated his blue emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. Contact was made with the driver of the vehicle advising why she had been stopped and asking for her drivers license. The driver identified herself as Nykeiva Horton from Prescott, Ar. Horton advised that she did not have a valid drivers license due to non payment of fines. K9 Deputy Hendrix observed an odor of what is known to him to be marijuana emitting from within the Horton vehicle. Horton was asked to step to the rear of her vehicle. K9 Deputy Hendrix conducted a free air search with his K9 Max. K9 Max alerted on the vehicle and was placed back in Hendrix patrol unit. K9 Deputy Hendrix conducted a search of the vehicle finding two bags of marijuana in the center console and a burnt cigarette containing a green leafy substance inside the ashtray of the vehicle. Nykeiva Horton was charged with driving of a suspended license, defective license plate lamp and for possession of a controlled substance. |
